What’s more in with the interwebz than being meat free? Not much..unless you’re Stickam famouz. Vegetarianism is a scenester favorite, with organizations like Peta 2 catering specifically to the scene, complete with photos of Forrest Kline hugging bunnies on their website.
What is it that makes vegetarianism so appealing to the scene? First and foremost, its because of 3oh!3. Duh. You know that that line “I’m a vegetarian and i ain’t fuckin scared of him!” set off a domino effect of over-spiked, over-dyed children of the internet into a Popeye binge, choosing spinach over the usual Extreme Bacon. If that tall french dude that was in that good band once but sold his soul for hipsters and Trainwreck Tuesday thinks being veg is cool, that it MUST be.
Secondly, being vegetarian is cheaper. Why spend $12 on chicken nuggets at Warped Tour, when you can spend $4 on an Arepa (they are good) instead. Being vegetarian forces you to be economical at festivals, especially during theses hard times.
Finally, being a scene kid is all about rebellion, and what says rebellion like “Fuck no, I want TOFURKY at my thanksgiving mom. I’m going to make you cook twice while I take pictures of myself in my toothpaste speckled mirror”?
Being vegetarian is like the Kaballah of the scene. Instead of wearing red bracelets, you cover yourself in those annoying “I’m not a nugget” stickers the Peta 2 tent forced you to take at Warped Tour. Oh, I feel the rebellion coming on. It could be a REVOLUTION led by the soy brigade…that is, if they have enough protein to keep going. A diet of Kazoozles and PBR can’t be that good for you.
